FAFSA Worksheet

Dear Seniors:

Tap into EVERY resource to help pay for college

Now is the time to think about completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), not to be confused with the FFAA (Florida Financial Aid Application a/k/a Bright Futures application).  The FAFSA is now required for students to receive Bright Futures funding when they are enrolled in college.  The FAFSA form requires students to report family income earned for the 2011 tax year, so it's better if families complete their 1040 tax return before filing the FAFSA if possible.  Families may estimate income on a FAFSA and revise later if necessary.   You must complete and submit a FAFSA to apply for federal student aid and for most state and college aid.
Complete FAFSA at:  www.FAFSA.ed.gov

Be sure to complete the FAFSA at the official Federal Financial Aid Website!  The first "F" in FAFSA is FREE!
DO NOT USE FAFSA.COM!
What's the FAFSA?  The federal government uses this online form to determine your eligibility for financial aid, which includes, grants, work-study, scholarships and loans.

How does it work?  Your prospective college will try to meet your financial need through aid made up of funds from federal, state, school and private sources.  This may include loans, grants, scholarships and student employment.

If you need help completing the FAFSA or have questions, Piper High School will be hosting a Parent Financial Aid Night on Thursday, January 19th at 6:00 p.m. in the Main Auditorium.  I encourage you to print out / review  the  attached  FAFSA on the Web Worksheet and bring it to the event.  It provides a preview of the questions that you may be asked while completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.gov.  Write down notes to help you easily complete your FAFSA.

Broward College is also holding a Financial Aid event on Saturday, February 25th at South Campus and on Saturday, March 24th at Central Campus.
It's FREE and open to the public for ALL college bound students, regardless of where they plan to attend college.  Computer labs will be open with financial aid staff available to assist families through the steps.

Wishing you the very best on this wonderful journey,

Mrs. Dahlia Orris
BRACE Advisor
