Fwd: Give Kids a Chance Scholarship




In order to apply for the Give Kids A Chance scholarship, the applicant must demonstrate the following criteria:

- Florida resident.
- Have a 2.5 average GPA or above.
- Documented financial need:  eligible students must have a family income of less than 60% of the median family income in the area in which they reside.
- Demonstrate an interest in school and community activitites.
- Two (2) letters of recommendation.

Scholarship applications are available on our website all year.  They must be completed and submitted to GKAC by April 30th of each year.  Decisions will then be made concerning award recipients by May 30th of each year.

Greetings Community Leaders, Guidance & Educators,

 

I wanted to inform you of an opportunity for graduating seniors (June’15).  As mentioned during our class presentations and college/career fairs, Keiser University, a Partner in Education with BCPS, will be hosting a Rising Scholars Pre-College Summer Program for Graduating Seniors (June’15) that plan to attend a college or university in the Fall of 2015.  The objective of this program is to promote the necessary skills for students to be successful in their first year of college no matter which institution they choose to pursue after high school.  In this program, students are able to take their first college course as a high school graduate, l attend seminars that focuses on leadership and time management, and learn about resources available at the university level that assist in student success. 

1)      All tuition and fees are covered by Keiser University as a Partner in Education with Broward County Public Schools.  Students are only required to purchase their textbook for the course of their choosing.

2)      Students will receive an official transcript to submit to their institution of choice for credit.

3)      The program 4-weeks and incorporates Leadership Distinction Seminars and Success Skills workshops to ensure students have the necessary tools to be successful in their first year of post-secondary education. (June 29th – July 24th)

4)      Every student interested in the program will sit with an admissions counselor to decide on the appropriate course to take and align it with their program of study.

*This is also a great opportunity for students that may not be sure of what they want to pursue after high school or question the possibility of success during college as well.

 

Students must retrieve all required documents and interview before April 17th to be eligible for the program.  Seats are limited.  All accepted applicants will be notified no later than May 1st, 2015. 

Please inform students to  not mail/e-mail any application materials.  All materials are to be delivered in person during their scheduled interview date/time.

The ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarships were established to encourage minority students to pursue college degrees and careers in science, technology, engineering and math. The scholarship program was created in 2010 by Dr. Bernard Harris, a former astronaut, physician and businessman, and ExxonMobil to increase the number of underrepresented students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM).

2015 SASHTO Scholarship Program

 

 

The Florida Department of Transportation through the Southeastern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (SASHTO) is pleased to announce the 2015 SASHTO Scholarship program.  There will be a total of $17,000 divided into 26 Scholarships as follows:

1.      8 x $1,000 Statewide FDOT Secretary Scholarships

2.      18 x $500 District Secretary Scholarships, 2 per District, awarded to winning applicants, as follows:   

 

A.      Eligible high school Senior’s graduating this school year, who will be entering a 2 year college, a 4 year college, or Career/Vocational/Technical Institution during the summer or fall of 2015.

 

B.      Eligible college or career/vocational/technical student who is currently pursuing a degree or certification.

 

NOTE:  All applicants will compete for both scholarships. However, applicants who receive the “FDOT Secretary’s Scholarships” are not eligible for “District Secretary Scholarships.” All scholarships will be awarded based on the number of applications received.
