We are thrilled to inform you that in the fall of 2014, TheDream.US awarded scholarships to over 500 DREAMers nationwide! Kaplan University and Mount Washington College are proud partners of TheDream.US and we are currently accepting applications for the next cohort of DREAMer Scholars.

This is a great opportunity for first-time college students and community college graduates to apply for the scholarship which could cover up to 100% of their total tuition cost* to pursue an associate's or a bachelor's degree. Isaac launched the Isaac Bruce Foundation in 2006 which focuses on health, wellness, nutrition, fitness and education. Through the Foundation, Isaac reaches out to youth and teaches them at an early age the importance of a healthy lifestyle with a focus on education.  To date, the Isaac Bruce Foundation has donated almost half of a million dollars in grants and scholarships, fed more than 3,000 families in partnership with Feed the Children and other hunger relief organizations, had more than 4,300 kids participate in our free football clinics, donated more than 1,200 autographed items to other charities for raffles and auctions to help them raise money, donated more than 16,500 books to underserved preschool students, and rewarded more than 1,000 student athletes with tickets to a NFL game for their work in the community and the classroom. It was so great to talk with you! We are very excited to be having our regional on-site admissions in Boca on December 2nd from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Doubletree-Deerfield Beach. This is a time for students to apply to UNF and receive an on the spot admissions decision! Students can register through this link:
 
 
Also, this event is also for students who have already been admitted. We will have representatives from One Stop (Financial Aid), Housing, Chartwells (Dining Services), Honors, and Academic Advising. This is a great time for students to be able to talk to these different entities about their next steps towards becoming an Osprey.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must:

耀 Be a 2015 graduating senior in a Broward County high school, and a permanent resident of Broward County;
耀 Be pursuing a major in public administration, political science, or a government related field at any accredited college or university in the United States; and
耀 Have a minimum cumulative unweighted grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale), verified by a school transcript.

Selection Criteria
耀 Preferential consideration will be given to students who demonstrate:
耀 Dedicated pursuit towards a career in public administration, political science, or a government related field
耀 Involvement in work, volunteer service, or internships in public, government, community, and/or legislative environments
耀 Familiarity of programs & mission of the Broward League of Cities
耀 The applicant must demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills and show maturity in judgment and purpose.
耀 Applicant must provide completed application including:
耀 One (1) essay and one (1) personal statement (as outlined in Scholarship Application form)
耀 Two (2) written letters of recommendation from a high school staff member, i.e., counselor, teacher, coach, or administrator, or from a member of the community who is familiar with the applicant's character
耀 A transcript must be submitted with application or prior to application deadline
耀 Applicant MUST be available on the date of the interview to be considered for the scholarship.

Scholarship Award Selection Process
The League's Youth Leadership Committee is comprised of local elected officials along with local business leaders. The Committee reviews all submitted (complete) applications. Semi-finalists selected after the first qualifying round will be contacted by email to arrange for a personal interview by the Committee. Upon completion of the interviews, the Committee makes the final selection. The selection and awarding of scholarships is entirely at the discretion of the Committee, and their decision is final

Association Scholarship

Rules for the Broward County Chiefs of Police Association Scholarship Awards are as follows:

  • This is a one (1) year, $1,500 Scholarship with the opportunity to reapply for one (1) additional year at $1,500 open to graduating high school seniors and currently enrolled college students who are pursing degrees in criminal justice or field directly related to Criminal Justice and is a dependent/sibling of a law enforcement officer.  Recipients must maintain and meet scholarship requirements and make full application to be eligible for a second year consideration.  
  • Applicants must be majoring in Criminal Justice or a field directly related to Criminal Justice and must be a high school senior or full time college student who is seeking an Associates or Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.  
  • The recipient must live in Broward County and be a dependent/sibling of a Law Enforcement Officer from an agency within Broward County who is active, retired or vested.
  • The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement, economic need, G.P.A., and community involvement.
  • The selection of the applicants shall be made by the Scholarship Committee of the Broward County Chiefs of Police Association.  All selections are final.  
  • Applications must be submitted and postmarked to Dean Linda Wood c/o Broward College, Institute of Public Safety, 3501 SW Davie Road, Davie, FL 33314 no later than March 13, 2015.
  • The scholarship winner shall receive notification by mail.
  • The scholarship awardee is to fully understand that in accepting this scholarship that:
  • It must be his/her intention to complete college.  The selected high school recipients must provide proof of acceptance into the college noted on the application.  
  •  Applicants must average and maintain 3.0 GPA throughout the scholarship period (official transcripts will be required).  
  • Applicants currently attending college must provide official transcripts and proof of continued enrollment.  
  • The scholarship will be terminated should the recipient not fulfill the above requirements.
  • Checks will be issued in the name of the college stated in the application by this individual and forwarded to the appropriate address upon verification of documents provided by the recipient.
  • It is the responsibility of the scholarship recipient or awardee to inform the Scholarship Committee of the correct mailing address where check should be mailed.  
  • The application must be typed.
  • Scholarship Awardees who wish to compete/reapply for the second year must submit all paperwork by the published due date.
Deadline Date:  MARCH 13, 2015
